I commend CISM for introducing the CHAMPS study and for creating forums that allow child mortality discussions — a problem that deeply concerns Mozambican society, and particularly the district of Quelimane. I understand that CHAMPS’ role is to provide concrete answers through studies that rigorously quantify and describe the main causes of mortality among children under five and stillbirths, while advocating for the continuous improvement of public health policies. I also take this opportunity to thank the communities of Quelimane, who have shown support and trust in the biomedical research conducted by Mozambicans. This commitment is especially valuable, considering the cultural challenges and high levels of illiteracy that sometimes lead to the spread of rumors, creating situations of discomfort both for governance and for the National Health System itself.
